Random Moment #25 – Groovy Feeling at 120+ bpm

Groovy Feeling … a specialist selection of electronic dance music (EDM), at 120+ bpm, all tracks feature a steady, driving pulsating beat and catchy synths, generating an uplifting energy.

1 – Dancer by Gino Soccio @ 122 bpm
2 – Groovy Feeling (Make Mine A 99) by Fluke @ 123 bpm
3 – Always Loved A Film by Underworld @ 130 bpm
4 – Belfunk by Sasha @128 bpm

Notably, track #1, “Dancer” was released in 1979 during the disco era, several decades before the rise of EDM. Unlike Giorgio Moroder’s highly influential 1977 release of Donna Summer’s mega disco hit “I Feel Love,” Gino Soccio’s “Dancer” features a more stripped-down, industrial sound. I(Chris) love both of their works. Fluke and Sasha released their tracks in 1993 and 1999, respectively, while Underworld released their song in 2010, well after this style’s peak in mainstream popularity. If we were to categorize these tracks, progressive trance comes closest, with “Belfunk” standing as a prime example.

This style of EDM emphasizes a more gradual progression of sound with longer builds, softer breakdown, creating a journey-like experience. It tends to lack anthemic choruses, crescendos and drum rolling, but holds an emphasis on rhythmic layers. It is an acquired taste; enjoy and lose yourself in the infectious rhythm. Good also for exercising.
